Workshop
"Interpretation Course:
Applying ISO 9001 in a software environment"
Duration:
3 days
Recommended Participants:
Anyone playing a key role in the implementation of ISO 9001 and
who are unsure of the exact meaning behind the ISO 9001 requirements
for software environments.
Prerequisite:
Basic knowledge of the ISO 9001:1994 standard -- this may be
obtained from books or better yet, introductory
type courses.
Workshop Description:
This workshop provides an in-depth knowledge of the ISO 9001 standard (2000
edition). Primary focus is on implementing an effective quality system
relevant to software development and software maintenance. Both the
ISO 9000-3 and TickIT interpretations are covered, in detail, including
their strengths, weaknesses and differences.
Particular attention is paid to translating the ISO 9000 terminology
to that normally expressed within the software industry. Potential
solutions are discussed including solutions relevant to embedded software,
commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software environments and solutions relevant
to custom (contract) software projects--both small and large-scale project
environments are discussed.
Workshop Goals:
| 1. |
Examine ISO 9001 in detail and debate potential solutions. |
| 2. |
Discuss the various interpretations relevant to the software industry
such as AS 3563, ISO 9000-3, ITQS, and TickIT. |
| 3. |
Discover common ISO 9001 mis-interpretations. |
| 4. |
Cross-reference ISO 9001 with software processes that are:
| -- |
compliant with ISO 12207 |
| -- |
typical for your specific software environment (e.g., COTS, custom
project) |
|
| 5. |
Learn how other software process improvement standards/models (such
as ISO 15504 and SEI SW-CMM) differ/compliment ISO 9001. |
| 6. |
Learn to use the many job aids (e.g., flowcharts) provided to
help unravel the ISO 9001 requirements and to forecast the potential outcome. |
